How did you discover your breast lump? PDF Print E-mail
Morning of my annual gynecological check-up. A fine and dandy time for a breast self-check. (Didn’t do them on a regular basis, just occasionally, whenever I might think of it.) Into the shower I go. Raise my left arm, look and explore by touch. No worries. Raise my right arm, omigod! What’s this? A slight concave area, barely perceptible. I knew it wasn’t right. Poke around a little, find nothing. Press deep, there it is. Pretty big and hard as a rock. Turned out to be a 4 cm malignant tumor.

Lump??

I was lying in bed on my back and noticed an area on my left breast that is concave, the skin puckers when I lie down, and I pressed straight down on it and felt a very hard little lump underneath it. It is about 1/2 an inch in diameter and harder than the normal fatty lumps in my breasts, and its also larger. Should I see a doctor? My other breast doesn't have anything like this, and its starting to worry me a little.

Sarah, I'd definitely see a doctor right away. If it turns out to be nothing, you'll have peace of mind. If it's something that needs to be taken out, you can move forward.
1 cm mass on mammogram

I'm 53 years old with no BC family history. My mammogram shows a 1 cm mass in the middle central portion that they say is "probably benign findings. They are recommending another mammogram in 12 months. Am I wrong for wanting a biopsy? I've lost 4 friends to BC in their early 40's - all with no prior family history. Thanks.

"Probably benign?!" A year is too long too wait! Ask if an ultrasound or other test would be helpful in your case before you proceed to biopsy. Act now, you won't regret it!
